Almost three-quarters of workers would like the opportunity to work from home according to research carried out recently at OddsMonkey. And, with remote working seeming like the better option for many, working from home can have a number of benefits for both employers and employees. From staff wellbeing to productivity and keeping your workers safe, this article outlines the reasons you should be adopting a remote working policy at your organisation.

 

No stressful commute

According to research, many Brits are spending the equivalent of a week each year commuting to and from work, and it's costing them around £1,738 annually. Some commutes are even taking up to an hour! As if that wasn't bad enough, the daily commute is notorious for traffic and public transport problems. That's why one-third of the full-time employees surveyed admitted that they found their commute taxing and stressful. But, if they're working remotely, staff can avoid the cost and stresses of their daily commute, meaning they can often start work earlier and may be more productive throughout the day.

 

Higher productivity levels

Although home can be full of distractions, 59% of the people surveyed stated that they benefit from a productivity boost when working remotely. This is partly down to no office noise or chatty co-workers on hand to distract them from their jobs. Plus, it gives staff the freedom to work at times that they feel they are the most productive.

If your company relies on meeting clients, you've also got the extra benefit of being able to locate your staff closer to them. This means, if you need to organise any meetings, everyone has less distance to travel, and they can get more work done.

 

Less sick days

When workers wake up feeling a bit stuffy due to a mild cold, they're usually more than capable of doing their work. But the last thing they want to do is go into the office, so they call in sick to work and take the day off instead. However, if you implement a remote working policy, workers can spend the day carrying out all their usual tasks from the comfort from their own home. This means they're less likely to take a sick day for small sniffles and minor illnesses. Plus, being away from the busy office and circulated air means your workers are more likely to recover faster from a slight cold and are less likely to get sick in the first place.

But, working from home also gives employees an opportunity to achieve a better work-life balance and reduce their stress. 39% of respondents to our survey said working from home gives them the chance to spend more time with their family and pets. And, since pets can help to reduce stress and anxiety, it's likely that your employees will feel happier and work harder when they're around their furry friends (Mental Health Foundation).
